Aluminium extrusion or 3D-printed frame?

asked by arcadist · 2025-11-18
For a long-lived workhorse: aluminium V-slot (2020 or 2040 profile). Stiff, accurate, repairable, looks pro.

For a first build / proof-of-concept: 3D-printed corners + threaded rod work, but expect to redo it within 6 months. The HPL/MDF tier in the cncfoam.com hardware plan is the cheapskate middle ground — laser-cut sheet, no extrusion, very rigid, no machining required.
