How to build one

I've been building foamcubes since 2014, now in 2026 I am building this hot-wire foamcube from scratch and documenting it here as I go — parts, photos and instructions, step by step. It's a work in progress: bookmark this page and check back, because new steps and photos appear the moment I finish them.

This foamcube can generate professional results and can scale from desktop to mega big. I have purposely chosen non conventional cheap and readily available materials so people around the world can build there own cube from locally sourced materials. Many CNC machines are over-engineered and sometimes for good reason, but a foamcutter is not a high speed, high torque, g-force absorbing beast so over the years I have simplified a lot of parts to their minimalistic functions. This results in a 2 , 3 , 4 or 5 axis CNC hotwire cutter that is robust, works any time and can be built and understood by anyone with an affinity for technology.

I am sharing my time and experiences with you as it gives me pleasure to build and help like-minded makers and technologists. As such I would also very much appreciate you sharing your builds, questions or efforts with me and other makers here.
